When SAP set out to provide a complete ERP offering for mid-market sized companies they did more than just focus on developing a new software suite. They took into consideration the customer’s entire life cycle cost of using the product. That life cycle cost includes the acquisition of the product, the implementation of the product and the ongoing support of the product.
SAP developed a new methodology for implementing Business ByDesign. SAP developed tools that facilitate the self-training of key customer users. Accelerators are provided to guide the implementation and speed many of the tasks. The methodology is built right into the software so the system knows which steps have been completed and which still need to be done. Another major factor is that SAP developed the software with the intent that changes could be easily made in the future. The system provides for new implementation projects to be undertaken at any time. Setups can be changed and additional features enabled without any impact on the ongoing operation of the system. Then on a certain date those changes can be put into production.
The Cloud Implementation Methodology is the roadmap for the cloud implementation project. Key activities, deliverables and checkpoints are defined. Accelerators are supplied to provide a standardized and prescriptive delivery.
